This is a duplicate of the closed issue #105 and #123, which also contains a solution. As far as I understand this solution was not merged due to the problem that the solution presented was not user friendly.
Out of mere luck I tried other logos to find out they actually got cropped. Until then I thought the logo feature is broken as I didn't saw anything with the logo I actually wanted to use.
Maybe considering accepting the pull request from #123 but stick with the default if neither of the options are passed, ignoring the "not so user friendly approach". In my opinion a feature without any options has to work out of the box in nearly every case or must clearly state its boundaries. I tried it with at least three different logos and neither of them was displayed correctly or at all without scaling the logos. So it failed every time in my case. I would therefore vote for further options to customize the logo behavior, because this options would be as tedious as playing around with image scaling but add the additional benefit of real customization.
An alternative idea would just to clearly document which dimensions of a logo are acceptable.
