Chrome extension stops working in random fashion

Bug Information

I use the Chrome extension on multiple desktop computers and I noticed it often fails to load, i.e. sites that are supposed to load a Darkness theme fail to do so + moon icon isn't visible at all. I checked the console for errors but I can't spot anything interesting. I suspect it may be time-based or have something to do with manifest v3 but these are my wild guessses.

• Site: Reddit, Hacker News, LinkedIn, pretty much all of them I think
• Theme: Iceberg mostly
• URL: see Sites I guess?
• Darkness Version: 2.0.27
• Browser: Chrome, latest
• Operating System: confirmed on MacOS Monterey and Windows 10. Probably OS-independent?
