Competence Sharing Lunch: Regex

Afry IT Souths first lunch presentation with 16 people tuning in! It was really fun that we could do something remotely as our activities this far has pretty much been on hold. Here comes the slides as promised, so that everyone can view them!

Internal pro-tip: RegExr

Erik Andersson recommends regexr - a cheat sheet, live feedback and since not too long ago, test cases!

Internal pro-tip: shellcheck

Patric Greco recommends shellcheck - check your shell scripts for common mishaps etc!

Internal pro-tip: awk

Patric Greco recommends awk - helps you extract data since 1970s. Does way more than just awk '{ print $2 }' , just takes a while to get a hang of it. 'The AWK Programming Language' was pretty ok.

Internal pro-tip: editorconfig.org

Erik Andersson recommends editorconfig.org - Style guides should not need to be read for more than those soft things that are on the edge of personal preference, i.e. “passable”

Internal pro-tip: WKB/WKT/GeoJson conversion

Kasper Bratz recommends kostas krevataz online conversion tool for WKB/WKT/GeoJSON - Very handy if you find yourself working with WKB’s /WKT’s.

Internal pro-tip: Z Shell + Autosuggestion

Hannes Sandberg recommends you all to get Z Shell and add some autosuggestions on top of that! Patric Greco adds that by also grabbing 'oh my zsh' (https://github.com/ohmyzsh/ohmyzsh) you can easier extend zsh and have a better day, Hannes also added a theme (https://github.com/agnoster/agnoster-zsh-theme) for those that like it prettier! Kasper added that he was in love with it too ;)

Soft Values 👥

The importance of a handbook-first approach to documentation

GitLab is one of few companies that are full-remote and (almost a bit of PR, but good nonetheless) love to share their learnings to help you out. Ideas like having Slack messages only persist 90 days might seem weird but there's a good reason to why, more interesting ideas and thoughts are brought up in this blog on how to improve remote work. I really enjoyed learning more about team communication and how simple small things can affect the greater org by simply being built a certain way! Personally this feels like a re-occuring theme, a solid foundation is incredibly important in all we do.

Biohacking Lite - Karpathy

Karpathy is one of the most famous names in the Machine Learning community currently, but today it's not about Machine Learning (but a little statistics). In this post we'll get to follow how he tracked the last few years of different diets, workouts and also learn a bit biology (or have a refresher!). All in all a pretty light but very interesting and fun read with cool graphs and awesome biology informatics!
