Problem

Actually nodes contain only fix number of glowing. For make it changeable, mod must contain 16 different nodes with same settings of all other and different glowing.

Solutions

1. Support paramtype="glow" (paramtype 1) OR

Alternatives

2. Support paramtype2="glowfacedir" and "glowdegrotate" OR
3. Do node glowing changeable by some as light_source=editable OR
4. Do it editable by some way of using node metadata

The node brightness depends on the light level. Hence, paramtype = "light" and the corresponding node.param1 field should have you covered. Have a look at light sources (torches or the mese lamp for example). One part of the documentation:

My idea is for be possible this - all at once:

1. Player will interact with some node
2. Light_source of node will be changed
3. The node name will not be changed

And my ideas of solution are in variants:

1. new paramtype
2. new paramtype2
3. support light_source as directly changeable (I don't know where it could be saved)
4. do it with using node metadata (I don't know how it will be possible to make it)

If you want your node to propagate light, param1 has to be set automatically, so the modder can't store any info in there.
Light source nodes that do not propagate light could work with a new paramtype.

Whether we want to add this is questionable. (Adds complexity, for a rather obscure feature with limited flexibility.)

Using param2 or node meta would allow more flexibility. This goes into the node variants direction. (And adds a whole low of complexity.)

Honestly, if someone wants to manually spread light in some nodes using eg. a different algorithm in Lua, a special paramtype could make sense, which would eg. be the same as paramtype light, just without auto spreading.

Even making a lamp that glows strongly, but doesn't spread light to the surroundings is an interesting effect (here achieved by other means involving world reload on Luanti 5.14):
