Battery voltage showing on data lines

I have connected the battery terminals of the module to the battery, though the data pins SDA and SCL are showing the battery voltage. Is this correct behaviour for the module? I am wanting to connect this to an ESP32 board, but I am worried that a fully charged battery would blow the board.

Hi! Do you mean that you are reading a constant voltage of, let's say, 4.2V between SDA and SCL?
Which module are you using? Could you post a photo or schematics of your connections?
