Close to tray

Feature request:

This program works flawlessly on Fedora 43 Plasma 6.5.5. I especially like the ability to start apps minimised in combination with kde autostart apps.

The install.sh script didn't quite work on my system.
I had to run it as sudo, but it installed the kwin scripts in /root/.local/share/kwin/scripts/
I just had to copy them across to my corresponding home user folder.

I wondered whether the feature "close to tray" could also be implemented?
I'm not sure how difficult or whether it could be done.
The app itself could then be closed from the corresponding (right-click) system tray menu (quit).

Yeah, it is not meant to be run as root. I made it so the qml plugin is installed as root so it can be loaded by the script ,but the script is installed to the user HOME scrips folder.

Running it as root makes the script be installed to the root user, that's a problem.

I think I will make both be installed as root so everything goes to /usr

That's where I went wrong. I ran install.sh as sudo.

I should have read the install.sh script to see what it was doing before I ran it 😆

I wondered about this too, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to intercept the closing of windows from KWin script, it is something that needs to be implemented by each application.

I don't know if there are other ways this could be implemented, the only thing that already can do this are window rules, in theory I could create such rules on the fly and that would prevent one from closing it, but it will still need to detect that event to then minimize and hide the window.

Perhaps being able to intercept the close event is something that could be requested as a feature to KWin developers? Not sure if something like this can be accepted though, as being able to close windows is a fundamental functionality of the window manager.

I can understand intercepting close button calls could be an issue.

At the moment I'm using shortcut keys to raise and minimise applications that your kwin script has placed into the system tray.
This works quite well.

I'm happy if you close this issue for now.
