Product attribute apply_to does not get validated when saving a product

Preconditions and environment

• Magento 2.4.4-p6

Steps to reproduce

• Create a product attribute in the default attribute set which has its apply_to set to simple
• Start creating a simple product and after filling the required fields, click Save & New or Save & Duplicate
• In the duplicate / new product, fill the required fields and set the weight to 'This item has no weight'
• Click Save

Expected result

Product attribute which is set to only show for simple product should not show

Actual result

Product attribute which is set to only show for simple product shows, and only disappears when re-selecting the attribute set which re-renders the form fields.

Ahh there is no option to enable apply_to portion of a product attribute via the Magento instance as there is no access to install scripts or database...

Thank you for reporting and collaboration.

We have checked the issue in our local instance and also we don't have the option enable apply_to portion of a product attribute could you please provide more information how we can enable this option.

@engcom-Bravo Two ways that can be done in core Magento:

1. a Magento data patch which creates the attribute with the apply_to configuration set to simple, or
2. creation of the attribute via the admin and then altering its apply_to in the catalog_eav_attribute table directly in the database.
