Matrix view needs frozen column and row labels

Matrix view for a large enough setup is current near unusable do to being unable to see row and column labels at the same time for most pairings without majorly zooming out to the point of being very hard to read, even then it doesn't cover all cases. You can of course filter with Clients Visibility but that's a pain to do if doing many connections at once or trying to look over some things. Hover can also help but that's got a delay before popping up and is not particularly easy to find what you need in cases where you are trying to add a connection.

The fix for this is really just to "freeze" the label column and row (think like in an excel doc) so that they are always visible. The label row and column might need to be adjustable in size in case the window isn't maximized due to the potential long names shown.

Yes, I agree. I have it planned but I can't promise any timeline now. I will have to start from scratch, most likely. Initially, matrix was meant be used just for MIDI, which usually has much less clients to deal with. I added audio matrix in the most recent release, as it was low effort. But as it stands, it has limitations.

I may limit overlap to input (bottom) labels. Screen space is more constrained vertically, so that should help quite a bit, without the need of rewriting everything. Splitters are visible in the screenshot to show what's happening, but I'll most likely make them hidden, for cleaner look.

Ya, freezing at least column labels would for sure help. It doesn't solve in all situations but it's definitely better then nothing and it works as a reasonable stopgap. The feature is experimental after all. Also worth considering if you ever do get around to rewriting the matrix view that it can be worth considering options to transpose/flip I/O (aka output ports columns, input ports rows) as well as flipping the label side (left/right and top/bottom options). Those obviously aren't high priority needs but they are nice to haves and something to consider the possibility of if you do go an rewrite the matrix view at some point.

Update definitely helped. Obviously both labels always being visible is ideal, but just one is MUCH better then neither.

Maybe I'll have another go at it one day. This was simply enough to implement so will have to suffice for now.

New commit fixed spam in syslog (there wasPyQT6 compatibility issue) and this helped with labels truncation, so there should be slight improvement because of that.
