We analyzed 405 open-source projects (including 45 Python projects) to understand how effectively code context can be extracted and compressed for AI model consumption.
What is Context Extraction? The process of compressing source code while preserving semantic meaning — critical for LLM integration where token limits are a hard constraint.
Key Findings:
Python repositories in our study show:
- 96.2% ± 1.8% token reduction (most consistent across languages)
- With smart extraction: analyze ~25x more code with same token budget
