Ghost plot when adding grids to mslice.

Describe the bug

Found in Manual Testing, I've checked in 6.15 and it still appears.

Following Manual Testing instructions for Mslice.
When trying to add a grid on a plot by double-clicking on the axes:

A new empty plot appears:

This happens if you keep the plot. This is very important. All opened plots should be marked as keep before trying to change the grid.

Expected behavior
No ghost plot.

I am trying to recreate the issue on Mac OS when running Mslice from start_mslice.py but I don't see a ghost plot. Is this a linux only issue ?

Either Linux only or it might happen on Windows, but MacOS is ok.

Just to confirm, this is not a regression as can be reproduced in v6.15.

Therefore, hope we can remove this from the v6.16.0 release board.
