Windows: app crashes when the map is removed from the UI

Repro 1:

1. Start the demo app on windows
2. Close the app
3. Observe failure exit code

Repro 2:

1. Start the demo app on windows
2. Go to map manipulation demo
3. Disable the map
4. Observe app crash
