Description
User Story
As a map designer I can add ambient occlusion to 3D features, so that they look more realistic.
Rationale
Currently extrusions look pretty bland:
Unfortunately even fill-extrusion-vertical-gradient doesn't seem to work (this might be a bug but I'm not sure):
A way to add ambient occlusion would make maps look much better and more modern, this is an example from Mapbox:
They have a few experimental ambient-occlusion properties you can specify in the style spec, which were added in this pull request.
I haven't found any resources online to do this, might work with some custom shaders but I'd need to do further digging.
Impact
Would make maps look much better.
Side note: I've tried to look for any issues related to ambient occlusion but I haven't found any, if I missed anything or this is a duplicate feel free to close this issue.
