Will gather breaking changes here to be included in the next release for Android.

Planned

• Make Vulkan default renderering backend.
• Remove AsyncTask in favor of coroutines. Needs API changes (#2436 Replacing AsyncTask with coroutines #2695).
• Remove support for MapBox API keys #349
• Migrate to the new Kotlin API of maplibre-java packages Convert library to KotlinMultiplatform maplibre-java#40

When Ready

• Annotations API rework (Android Annotations #1491). If this is not ready in time we should un-deprecate the current methods for annotations.

We should probably convert all Java files of the library to Kotlin for v12.

We should change the default foregroundLoadColor on Android to transparent. It's currently light grey, which causes a bright flash when the map is loading in a dark mode app. See maplibre/maplibre-compose#430 for a video example.

Setting this to transparent would be a slightly better default for apps with a dark mode. This is a breaking change because it changes default behavior a bit, but is not a build breaking change.

On iOS, the corresponding default is already [UIColor clearColor], so no change necessary there.
