This board won't run - ESP32-PICO-KIT V4.1

Hi all,
I'm super interested in Marcel's organ project, so I'm building it.
I'm a jazz organist and can't wait to put it to use.

I have an ESP-PICO-KIT V4.1, and I'm putting it to a PCM5102 DAC.
So far, it compiles Ok. But when I run it, it goes into a reset loop.
Marcel suggests maybe it's pin problems, I'm not sure. I'm a seasoned electronics guy, with Arduino, but not yet with ESP32.
I've included the board_ESP32_DOIT in my project to force the correct I2S pins.

But this is what I get, using the Serial Monitor:

It runs over and over. I get no sound from the DAC.

Attached is my compile verbose. This is where I get lost.
I notice there's some stuff in the middle of it about WROOM, but that's not what a PICO KIT is.

Regarding the PICO KIT ... I could imagine that they can be some Pin conflicts. I think I will update the projects to push out the pin configuration to show exactly which module will run over specific pins.

I could imagine that the pro organ could be also interesting for you as soon the ESP32 starts to work.

I see another possible problem. You are using ESP32 board library version v2.0.3. It may cause issues. I had problems by opening the serial midi port and the program crashes. I am not sure what can cause this problem. The last stable version is v1.0.6

I could identify the problem with the Serial Port. So it does not match to your problem.

I would recommend trying this by replacing the following lines in ml_synth_organ_example.ino

It may have problems by calling the Organ_Setup function. It could be also a candidate for the crash. I successfully tested using the ESP32 board library version v2.0.2 today

Thank you so much for your reply.
I tried your fault-finding technique to see if the Midi_Setup() was the problem.
It didn't get past the "Before Midi_Setup()".
So I looked more closely at the Midi_Interface.h file, and put a bunch of printf's to narrow it down.
I got to the part in Midi_Setup() here:

At that point, I was about to continue debugging, when I read what you said about the 2.0.3 ESP Libraries.
Without doing any more, I deleted the 2.0.3 libraries, and downgraded to 1.0.6.

I recompiled, and voila! It works!

So, the new libraries do handle the serial properly or something, on this particular ESP32.

Thanks for your help on this. My project is to convert an old Yamaha organ into a portable Hammond-sounding portable organ.
I have a large Yamaha organ that I play at home, but it's not something I can carry anywhere if I want to.
I recently bought an old small Yamaha EL3, which will be ideal once I have mapped the keyboard matrices, and midify it.

Would you like to keep up with how I go on this project? I can send you an occasional update, maybe when it's finished I'll play some jazz on it for you!

Good to hear that it works. I guess that the new ESP32 lib does some additional checks. It will fail to call Serial2.begin in case you are using a TX pin which is only allowed to be used for input. I do not know what could cause the problem in your case. I could imagine that choosing the right pins might solve the problem.

I am currently working on a MIDI player also available for the organ soon. I would like to make some little demos which can be upload using LittleFS. If you like you can provide a short one which I can add
