Dear Sir, I've recently found your brilliant repositories and feel like experimenting with synths. Thank you for this ability! As far as I understand esp32 PSRAM is used when talking about samples? In this matter I'd like to ask, could you kindly add support for esp32-s2 with 8mb psram. It has just one, but more advanced core, and USB OTG which would allow connecting usb midi keyboard directly! Please, check this out LILYGO® T8 ESP32-S2 V1.1

Thank you for your message. In general it would work on all esp32. I am not sure but I think the esp32 s2 comes only with one core. It would have some limitations. Using OTG would be nice.
The PSRAM was used for samples that is correct. It is only necessary when a quick access to some more data is required.

I could imagine that testing the organ could evaluate that some of the other projects could also run on this platform.
Did you try to compile the project shown here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AHQ4mQrjE8 ?
It is able to run on the ESP8266 which runs which has also only one core.

@marcel-licence thank you for your fast reply! Unfortunately I only get home in a week or so, and as I'm by my hardware I immediately check if the organ works on the esp32s2. I just thought that since it's another architecture (s2 has LX7 core vs esp32's LX6), it won't run with the precompiled library. For now I have basic esp32s2, but am waiting for the one equipped with 8mb psram.

PS I could connect to my pc remotely and tried to compile your basic_synth, the program was compiled successfully with everything midi2-related disabled in config.h. The board selected was DOIT DevKit. But I can't confirm if the firmware would work on the esp32s2 unit. Probably, GPIOs require some re-assigning, etc. I will check these later.

Can you estimate what precision is really needed? Is it possible to represent the calculations as integer arithmetic ?

In general, the project should be able to be converted using integer arithmetic only. I think I will also try to change some projects in future to get more out of it because using float was not really necessary. It is just easier to start with.
You can run the organ project. I would be curious if it would allow a USB host or also USB device connection.

For some strange reason I couldn't make the organ project produce a sound. I've managed to compile the .ino, but it just hissing, though I defined the option playing the midi note on startup. BTW what switch should one use when determening the mpu type? #ifdef ESP32S2 won't go...

To get it running it used
#define BOARD_ADAFRUIT_QT_PY_ESP32S2 to get the configuration for the board shown in the recent picture.
You should also get some output of the used PINS after startup.

When building with verbose option on you might see some active defines like -DARDUINO_ADAFRUIT_QTPY_ESP32S2 -DARDUINO_ARCH_ESP32

Some defines might be activated by specific includes. Sorry I do not have any more specific information at the moment.

I also retested the configuration with the ESP32S2. It should work
