How to recover my RSS Guard 4.x dataase

Suddenly today my 4.x database an feeds was gone. There was no warning when the change to 5.x would happen and most important how I can continue with the old database.

Anyone know how solve this issue?

It's not really gone, v5 is just reading/writing the database on a different location.

You can actually import your v4 database back.

What's your operating system and how did you install RSS Guard?

I installed using Flatpak in my Zorin OS (Linux).

Then you can import your v4 db from these locations:

If you used RSS Guard v4 Lite:

~/.var/app/io.github.martinrotter.rssguardlite/config/RSS Guard 4/database/database.db

Or from here if you used the regular version:

~/.var/app/io.github.martinrotter.rssguard/config/RSS Guard 4/database/database.db

When you open v5 for the first time, it will give you the option to import the v4 db:

start rss guard -> add classic rss/atom profile/account -> the messagebox will display

also you can right click existing rss/atom profile node in feed list -> import from rssguard4

Just for anyone else reading this:

Open RSS Guard 5 and select Account > Add Account

Add New Account: select Local RSS/RDF/ATOM/JSON and OK.

Account Setup - OK

Select Import from RSS Guard 4.x the database on my PC was found at ~/.config/RSS Guard 4/database/database.db

I tried the import method laid out above, but got an empty feed.
I used tinytinyrss with rssguard4 and about 20 feeds in there.
None of those can be found.

Is there a way to import the setup for tinytinyrss?

The above method only imports classic RSS/ATOM feeds and related data. Import for other profile/account feeds will not be supported.

Start with clean database. RSS Guard 5 is new major update after several years of continuous backwards compatibility. I guess we can afford starting from over once each 5 years or so.

I am on Windows and I cannot find the v4 directory anywhere. What to look for?

I found it in a backup from last weekend. It is definitely removed during the upgrade from v4 to v5.

There was horrific bug in RSS Guard installers version 5.0.1/5.0.0. Read the changelog here: https://github.com/martinrotter/rssguard/releases/tag/5.0.3

Hey guys, I had done this while migrating to RSS Gaurd 5.x from 4.x (windows) but I recently lost my data again updating to 5.1.2 from winget silent install through unigetui, there wasn't even an option to add RSS/JSON/... local account. I ran the installer from github again and it automatically fixed issue and recovered feed items. Keep backup of feed guys, this kept me in panic for a good while.
