Autohide stops hiding panel after ALT+F1 #1533

Description

After using the ALT+F1 shortcut to open the popup main menu, autohide stops hiding the panel after the next time you unhide it by moving the cursor to it. Enabling/disabling autohide won't change this. Logging out and in again restores autohide functionality.

Happening on Linux Mint MATE 22.2 with MATE 1.26.1, but forum posts reporting this go back all the way to 2010.

This unhidden state, with the panel covering the window titlebar (if the panel is on top), is actually pretty nice and saves screen real estate, unless when you want to access the window titlebar buttons. Unmaximizing works by dragging windows down from the top, except Caja for some reason. A way to enable/disable this state (perhaps, paired with putting an x button on taskbar applications to make them closable like webbrowser tabs when enabled) would be very useful.
