Calculate default value at run time?

Would it be possible to have a default value that is calculated at run time? Say that I want to have an option like this:

  -o, --os      Specify the OS and version (default: autodetected [Debian-11])

Wouldn't this already be supported?

# ARG_OPTIONAL_SINGLE([os],[o],[],[$(echo 'call any code in here')])

You can call another script from within the default clause. Then, in the code you can strip away "autodetected" and use the result.
