<md-select> options pagination

Hi there,
What could be the preferable way to enable pagination on <md-select> options list?
Currently I see only manual handling of wheel, touch and keypress events to solve it.
Could be better (IMO) to have it on scroll, but I can't make it work to trigger scroll event on a short list which does not have a scroll bar.
