Additional Information

Workaround - I think opening a new tab with Mattermost, and then closing it, seems to resolve (temporarily?) the issue.

I have seen this before, but it was rare and intermittent. Thanks for reporting :)

Confirming the issue. In our domain environment (Windows 10 LTSC, standard users without admin rights), this hang occurs regularly enough that it is not a "rare" case.

We have observed this behavior consistently across the following versions:
Desktop App: v5.13 up to v6.0.4.
Mattermost Server: v10.11 up to v11.3.
(Note: I don't know if older versions were affected as we started using Mattermost from these versions onwards).

The app periodically hangs on startup, showing either a white screen or the blue loading screen with an infinite spinner. GPU hardware acceleration is disabled on all machines. Closing the application and restarting it usually resolves the issue on the second attempt, which suggests a race condition during the initialization phase in managed Windows environments.

I've made a fix for what I think the issue might be, however since it's super hard to reproduce I'm not sure.

The fix has been merged and will be in the nightly build, so if anyone wants to run that and see if it still reproduces, that would be very helpful. If you do see it, please turn on Debug logging and post your log file.

Perhaps a silly question, but how does one know which version is installed?
Under "About Mattermost" I see:

Server Version: 11.4.1
Desktop Version: 6.2.0
Database Schema Version: 149
Build Number: 22133911175
Database: postgres

where I expected to see something with "6.2.0-nightly.20260318" in there somewhere?

For the server version, I think that window just shows the base version. To see the full version, you can go to the Help menu and it's listed there:

The nightly build fixed the issue on machines where Mattermost was previously 100% unable to start. This likely resolves the sporadic hangs for other users as well

I also found that adding "add_header Clear-Site-Data '"cache"' always;" (forces client-side cache clear) to nginx fixes the hang on the stable version
