Team Roles
Our project can be split easily into three categories of work: Electronics, Software, and Sculpture. Each of these is highly dependent on the others, but for organization sake, each team member will have a primary responsibility to manage.
This team member will be responsible for all aspects of the electronic hardware used in the project, including the microcontroller/computer, sensors, motors, and any other auxiliary components. This includes acquisition of the components, wiring them up, and testing that they are working properly.
They will also handle the storing of data that the sensors produce for the barnacles and pass that over to the Software team member. They will handle the electronic aspects of the feedback from the Software team member's code - the mechanism with which the barnacles extend/retract the cirri, and the wiring of the net to create the amount of dynamic motion necessary to interpret the zooplankton response.
They will also work in conjunction with the Sculpture team member to incorporate the electronics into the artistic form of the project, determining placement for wires and bulkier components, and maintaining the motorized components' functionality within the barnacle shell.
This team member will be responsible for interpreting the sensor data from the barnacles and any additional interactable ecosystem components. They will program a personality schema for the immediate reactions of the barnacle clusters and the zooplankton net, as well as any delayed reactions or changes to their behavior over time. They will also deal with the communication between the barnacles and the net.
They will work closest with the Electronic team member to make sure the data input from the sensors is correct and that the interpreted output can be fed back into the electronic responses.
This team member will be responsible for the art direction of the project. This includes fundamental aspects like determining the appearance of the net and the barnacles in terms of form, color, and material. Another necessary consideration is the overall installation appearance, in terms of layout, size, accessiblity placement, and structural integrity.
They will primarily work with the Electronics team member to design the reactions and motions, determine materials like fiber optics, and to integrate any exposed electronic components with the artistic design of the piece.
