MQTT broker

I am not using home assistant. I am running a mqtt broker on a different device…

• is this acceptable? I presume HA is not required to read mqtt messages sent from inetbox2mqtt?

• what is the ‘hostname’ field in the configuration? Is this necessary?

You are absolutely right – control works via the MQTT broker with any backends. The "hostname" field is not required for all configurations.
