input & output values in .yml config file

hi guys - not an issue, just a question! I can't see that the [inputs][type/value] or [outputs][type/value] sections of the config files are being used anywhere. Could you clarify how and if they are being used?

I thought the input type might, for example, be used to say an image classification model accepts '.dicom' and '.jpg'. In the config file examples included, the 'input type' says 'str' and then the 'input value. is 'image_dir'. I guess that's letting you read from pre-defined image directories? Would appreciate any input :)
