  • The reference suggests using uncompressed raw TTF fonts, which is an anti-pattern.
  • Some examples use OTF or even EOT fallbacks for IE

What did you expect to see?

WOFF2 font container to be used instead, apart from the cases when the format() function is described.

Do you have any supporting links, references, or citations?

Still, a notable percentage of fonts are still served as raw TrueType (.ttf) files. In 2025 about 6.7% of font requests are TTF
