Generate the shopping list of all recipes planed on a meal planer

Please provide a concise description of the problem that would be addressed by this feature.

As of my understanding, if you want to generate a complete shopping list for the meals planned between two dates, you need to:

• have your meal planer ready (init step)
• create a shopping list
• go to the meal planer tab
• for each day you want to include
  • click the hamburger
  • select "add to list" option
  • select the shopping list

The goal of this feature is to automatically create a shopping list from the meal planner that would contains all the ingredients of the recipes planned between two dates.

Please provide a concise description of the feature that would resolve your issue.

On the Meal planner screen:

• add a action item item to create the shopping list
• this would display a new popup where you could select:
  • the interval date of the meal planner
  • An optional list of shopping list
  • a text entry to specify a name for a new shopping list
    • provide a default name using the date interval if none are selected
  • cancel and validate action button

What would happen in the back is:

• create the new shopping list using the name provided for new shopping list if so
• for each recipe associated within the interval:
  • get the list of ingredients
  • add the list of ingredients to the shopping list

Please consider and list out some caveats or tradeoffs made in your design decision

The positive thing about this feature is that:

• it saves a lot of clicks for weekly/bi-weekly meal planners by avoiding a manual process on each day.
• It avoids the user to first create the shopping list and then go back to the meal planner view. The current flow gives too much importance to the shopping list definition which is a just an information container.
• For all the cases, i don t care about the name of the shopping list, it s an ephemeral resource i would not look again once the shopping done. I just need it to be created, but i have no added value in it, that s why automating it is a solid enabler.

Hi,

I would like to add some suggestions about this feature request, as is something that I really would like to have too, and I think is already
possible to partially implementing it reusing what is present.

In particular, I would suggest to leverage existing CookBooks. Indeed, this feature would be more or less implemented if a button in a cookbook allows the user to add all the ingredients of that cookbook in the shopping list.

The process I image is similar to what happens when a user clicks the three dots on the top right of a day in the Meal-Planner section, which opens a window reporting the preview of all the ingredients collected from the meals of that day, that are going to be added to the shopping list. I expect to see the same identical window, but from a cook book.

In this case, then the cook book become the collection of all the meals of a meal plan, allowing a smooth and fast process of creating the associated shopping list.
