Changing servings quantity?

Hello,

i am still exploring Mealie and and wondered why an (more or less) essential feature like changing the servings quantity is missing.
Now a saw a recipe in the demo with +/- to change the number, but not in my own tests/imports.
How do i "activate" that?

You have to enable ingredient amounts in your recipe settings to get the +/- buttons.

So i have to do this for every recipe AND edit the ingredients to function properly? That...feels not very convenient.

Under household settings, if you uncheck the "Disable organizing recipe ingredients by units and fields" setting, then the unit/quantity fields will be available by default. You still need to parse the ingredients, (using the parse button for one of the various built-in methods for parsing), however.

This is a limitation in the standard JSON schema for recipes. The recipeIngredients stanza is just a collection of strings, rather than structured data. Some degree of parsing will be required, unfortunately.

Thanks, meanwhile i found the FAQ section und have read about this.
I have to accept it as it is - still, it feels kind of strange. Don't know about the technical background, but haven't seen this in any other recipe manager i tested. In the end it's not about the ingredients - it's just math with the number in front of them and servings.

Parsing is one of Mealie's biggest pain points, including quantity parsing. It's something I want to work on in the near future, but requires cleaning up some tech debt. Frontend changes are more-or-less blocked until the Nuxt 3 migration is complete.

Simple serving quantity changes and depending on that nutritions informations would be very very nice.
