How to properly customize Medusa v2 backend and admin UI? I'm lost.

Which Medusa codebase can actually be run and customized?
I followed the official documentation, but I couldn't find any code that I could modify — everything seems abstracted away.

I also cloned this repo: https://github.com/medusajs/admin, but I saw that it hasn’t been updated in 3 years. Is it too old to use?

Also, the UI I see from that repo doesn’t look like the one I get when running http://localhost:9000/app — it looks completely different.

I'm stuck and very confused right now. Could you please clarify:

Which part of the code can actually be modified?

How do I run and customize the admin UI?

What’s the correct workflow for Medusa v2?

Any guidance would help a lot. I’m currently lost. Thanks so much.

the admin part from v2 is incorporated into the standard repo and can specifically be found here: https://github.com/medusajs/medusa/tree/develop/packages/admin
