Promotion Application Order – How to Handle It?

Hi everyone!

We're facing an important challenge and haven't yet found a proper solution:

How can we set up the promotion application order?

📌 Context

As part of our business logic, we’ve decided to use automatic promotions to handle general product discounts — e.g. 20% OFF, 30% OFF, etc.

Additionally, we use the same promotion module to:

• Apply corporate discounts (e.g. FANTASY-EMPLOYEE – 20% OFF applied to customers in the FANTASY group)
• Apply order-level discounts (e.g. automatic 10% OFF on the entire cart)

❗ The Problem

When calculating the cart totals, we're encountering unexpected results due to the order in which promotions are applied.

For example:

• Promotion A applies first
• Then Promotion B applies over the new subtotal
• The final numbers don’t match our expectations (even though we know the internal calculations are correct)

🤔 Our Question

Is there a way in Medusa to define or control which promotion gets applied first?

Or is this business logic currently unmodifiable within the system?

Any guidance from the community would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @xSlowikx your description lacks some details (i.e. you mention that the final numbers don't match your expectations, but you don't share an example with the final numbers + your expectations). I recommend you open an issue with more details, and the team can look into whether it's a bug.
