MacOS versions compatability

Hey,

I'm trying to find out exactly which versions of MacOS DryWetMidi (specifically DryWetMidi.Multimedia) is compatbile with. I couldn't immediately find this in the docs but perhaps I missed it?

The reason is that I'm having reports of a user running on MacOS 10.14 Mojave that they're getting this error: System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to load shared library 'Melanchall_DryWetMidi_Native64'
Though I'm not able to replicate it on any of the versions of MacOS I'm able to run and I haven't heard any similar reports from any other MacOS version. I'm hoping to rule out the version as the cause.

Hi,

First of all, there is no a list of supported macOS versions. I can guarantee that the library works with 10.15+ (because I tested it on this version), but I'm pretty sure it should work on 10.14 too.

But the error is not a compatibility issue. Looks like there is no such file in the app folder. And yes, I've never got reports from users with this error too. So it's definitely something special.

Well, right now there is no enough information to diagnose the issue. I need answers on following questions:

1. What is your app? It's a Unity game, .NET console app, GUI app, MAUI, Xamarin, something else?
2. Can the user show the content of the app folder where main library dll placed (Melanchall.DryWetMidi.dll)? Melanchall_DryWetMidi_Native64.dylib should be placed near it.

Have you tested on the version the user has (10.14)?

I assume you mean the test app? would you be able to test CoyoteMIDI too?

I just heard back from the user who was also on 10.14.6 and he tried out the test app. The test app also works for him as expected, so that seems like a pretty good indicator that it has to do something with the CoyoteMIDI app instead and not because of anything with the DryWetMidi library.

I'd still appreciate it if you could test CoyoteMIDI, it's always nice to have some extra data points!

Results for the CoyoteMIDI:

• 10.14.6 – doesn't work, DllNotFoundException as the user reports;
• 10.15.7 – works, UI is loaded and I see input devices.

Looks like you need to create a small sample app (just a console one which executes code from a native binary via DllImport attribute) and contact Avalonia tech support. Or you can just declare 10.14 as an unsupported system for your application.

I suppose that rules out DryWetMidi's role in this issue. Hopefully we'll be able to figure this out with the help of Avalonia.
