libayatana-appindicator is deprecated

When running the latest code in the master branch, I get this:

$ sudo ./grub-reboot-picker.py

Hmm. I'm kind of stuck. I have a branch here: https://github.com/mendhak/grub-reboot-picker/pull/15/files

In it I've switched to gir1.2-ayatanaappindicator3-0.1.

When I run it on Ubuntu 24.04, no problem, that warning disappears.

When I run it on Ubuntu 25.04, the warning still appears.

On both machines I have

gir1.2-ayatanaappindicator3-0.1   
libayatana-appindicator3-1 
libayatana-ido3-0.4-0:amd64     
libayatana-indicator3-7:amd64

OK maybe that's not the solution at all. I think Ubuntu 24.04 wasn't showing the warning at all in the first place, so I was misled.

Any pointers would be helpful, I am not sure if moving to AyatanaAppIndicator3 was enough. The warning still appears in Ubuntu 25.04. But I can't figure out where is libayatana-appindicator-glib

Sorry, I only play a Python developer on TV. I asked an AI to fix it, and it failed. I found the git repo for libayatana and the commit that added warning came with no explanation. You could try contacting the author. AyatanaIndicators/libayatana-appindicator@13ea932

I know the reason now. The app indicator library will at some point be replaced by this library: https://github.com/AyatanaIndicators/libayatana-appindicator-glib

However, this new library isn't available widely, it's only available in Ubuntu 25.10. (sudo apt install gir1.2-ayatanaappindicatorglib-2.0)

However however, I think the way to work with this library has changed, so it's not a drop in replacement of the existing library either.

However however however, the code samples in that repo aren't working for me.

So, I need to learn this library or get the sample working, then modify the existing code to work with this new library, then change the code, but only for Ubuntu 25.10 onward.

That said I am guessing it should also be OK to ignore the warning for a while until the new library is a bit more stable.
