This AI bot is useless because a maintainer will need to read the issue anyway. And I don't know how this repo maintainers work but at my company, if someone else is handling an issue, I skip it.

Now most issues have this useless AI comment on them, so the maintainers can't filter for issues without comments to check, so now they have to read every single open ticket to see if they need to handle it or not, making their work harder.

The makers of this AI are hoping that the person who opens the ticket is very lucky, they're hoping that the AI finds a duplicate issue and that the user closes their own ticket by themselves, which is a losing bet, most users won't close their own ticket even it's a duplicate, just check StackOverflow for reference.

Moreover, even if another open issue exists and it's closed, that doesn't mean that the issue itself is solved, for example, check my own open issue. There are many other similar closed issues, yet the issue still exists and I have given a step-by-step guide on how to reproduce it.

Therefore, this AI is not solving any problem, but it's creating more inconvenience for the people who open an issue, they have to check their notifications and check every single URL on the off chance that the problem already exist and has a solution and for the maintainers as well.

This AI bot is useless because a maintainer will need to read the issue anyway.

PowerToys has 5,500+ open and ~25,000 closed issues. Many of them are opened by users who are new to GitHub and open source. Assistive tools like the similar issue bot may not be useful for a professional like yourself, but they can be helpful for new users looking for resolution to their issues. It does help me as a maintainer find similar issues and related conversations. Since the team who maintains PowerToys is distributed, finding the right thread can be a challenge and automated tools are helpful to me.

As I stated above, finding similar issues is valuable for (frequently new) users looking for a solution/workaround, duplicate identification, and maintainers finding relevant conversations.

An issue can be closed if it is a duplicate of another issue. You are correct in stating that an issue being closed as duplicate does not mean the issue has a solution. Centralizing the conversation on a single issue makes it easier for the team to judge impact, evaluate solutions, and gather more information.

It may not be solving a problem you are having, but that doesn't mean it isn't solving problems for anyone at all.

Assuming that people are interested in a solution, a list of possible similar issues which may contain one is not an inconvenience. Reviewing possible matches is work, but so is doing any research into solutions for a problem.
