wsl vim systemd file syntax color pallet wrong

When running vim to edit systemd files (*.service, *.socket, etc.) The color coding is way off.
I read through this problem --> #930 and am aware of how to change the color pallet.
Here is an example image of from my wsl ubuntu and my 18.04 ubuntu vm I have. The background color is the same as some of the text.

How can I fix this?
