How does "locate" and "updatedb" work in Azure Linux?

I cannot even find updatedb.conf in an Azure Linux VM

Run locate --statistics:

So locate's database is at /var/lib/locate/locatedb

As for missing /etc/updatedb.conf that depends on what package is installed. I think it's part of mlocate or plocate and not findutils, the package included with Azure Linux.
