Describe the bug
This is a feature request instead of a bug.
The maintainers guide states: "Do not use features to implement alternatives". It would be great if alternatives were formally implemented so users would not have to deal with creating overlay ports for different alternatives.
Expected behavior
Make it possible to create ports with alternatives i.e. mutually exclusive features.
