Interactive plot viewer produces image instead of PDF

Hi,

I recently started again using the interactive python functionality after not working with it for a while. In my recollection, the plots, when viewed in the plots view, used to be a PDF even though the one observed in the Notebook was an image. Currently, it only shows the same low-quality image.
Is there perhaps a flag to enable the PDF plots viewer again or has this feature been deprecated.
