Is it possible to hide deleted segments from the timeline?

After deleting a segment, it continues to occupy space in the timeline. I would like to expand remaining segments to take up that empty space.
Is this feature already available?

unfortunately that wouldn't be easy to implement, because everything is currently built around the timeline being the length of the input video. this request would be more in the direction of a NLE, see #976

There are too many to list here, but you could start with Timeline.tsx. if you try to make changes to hide deleted segments you will quickly see that it has a lot of side effects, and there will be many usability problems like for example how to expand a segment when it has been hidden.
