Configurable number of armor slots

Currently, the number of armor slots is hardcoded to 6. Other mods may add more armor types, making 6 slots insufficient

Well, is there a mod that suffers from such issue?
How many slots are needed? How should it be configurable? On a per-player basis or mod-wide through an API function?
How should the slots be represented in the GUI? Using a scrollbar, or moving the content to the right side?
