Hyphy & Healing

If you’re reading this, you probably care about your mental health, or at least know it’s a thing you should care about—even if you’re tired of hearing adults say it. Hyphy & Healing is here to give you actual options, not lecture you. We know you know a lot already and we want this to be a space where you can find activities that reflect YOUR preferences and perspectives.

This project is rooted in Bay Area culture and built around you having places to move, breathe, laugh, and feel like yourself. It’s about real gyms, community centers, parks, and youth rooms where you can pull up as you are—loud, quiet, tired, kind lit — and still feel like you belong.

What This Site Is

Think of this site like a friend putting you on to good spots and not gatekeeping:

A page where you can find classes, meetups, and events that are actually youth‑friendly and either free or low‑cost.

Short reads about how other teens are using movement, art, music, and community to get through real life because “self‑care” should be fun. It shouldn't just be another thing you don't have time for on your to-do list.

A place your teachers, program leaders, or counselors can peek at when they’re making a real effort to listen to your perspectives instead of guessing what you're into and coming up with activities that feel corny or out of touch.

This isn’t therapy and it isn’t a crisis line. It’s a plug where you can access ideas and locations you would actually want to try after school, on weekends, or when stuff feels heavy and you need somewhere to go besides your room.

Who It’s For

This is for you if:

You live in or around the Bay and want mental health support that looks and
feels like your people, your neighborhoods, your playlists.

You’ve walked into spaces before and felt like the only Black, Brown, Asian,
Pacific Islander, disabled, queer, or questioning kid in the room—and you’re
tired of that energy.

You want movement and wellness options that respect your time, your culture,
and your boundaries.

It’s also for the adults who really want to show up better for you—teachers,
counselors, after‑school staff, mentors, family—so feel free to send them
links and say, “Start here.” This site is one more way to make sure you’re
not doing the work of taking care of yourself all on your own.
