It could be that you are installing the wrong workstation version. For me the above solution work for me.

same issue here. my guess is that we have to find the vmmon and vmnet modules compiled for Kernal 6.17

what bother me is that the two compiler are so similar, but unable to function properly

I wish I better knew how to troubleshoot this. Kind of stuck with 16.2.5 running on a W3690, since newer versions require instructions that my CPU just doesn't have. I do not know enough to even know if it is possible to keep patching these for a new kernel, as I'm sure there are greater underlying changes, that make it more than changing a path or two. I would grateful in a bit of teaching of what is actually being done to help resolve this. Maybe its just my fundamental misunderstanding of how github works, since I do not understand how to correlate the version checkout to the available documentation.
