From what's I've read, it turns out MKDocs v1 is unmaintained and v2 is problematic.

Zensical is a modern-but-compatible rewrite in rust by the mkdocs-material theme team.

Another option is https://github.com/ProperDocs/properdocs a continuation of mkdocs v1 by its most recent active version. MaterialX is also a continuation of mkdocs-material.

TLDR:-

1. 2.0 is a breaking change, no backwards compatibility.
2. No License specified as of now

How it affects mcp go sdk

1. 2.0 uses .toml instead of .yaml
2. MkDocs 2.0 is incompatible with Material for MkDocs, which is used by the go , python and the java sdk.
