I want to speak as a moderator of a server for a mod, that has to deal with new people to modding or at least modrinth regularly.
The current dependency list is very confusing to new people, the list is marked as "Dependencies" yet it lists incompatible mods on there, and while I and many people understand that incompatible mods are not compatible and shouldn't be used, new people to modding do not, and it is a fact as I have to provide help to such people as a moderator and I see issues caused by this confusion regularly.
That's why I think it needs to be changed to cause less confusion and also enrich the functionality itself
I have 2 solutions to make it less confusing, one very simple and second less simple:
Now onto the enrichment side, there are few features that dependency list simplifies specifically in conflicting mods.
Currently, if there is a conflict of any kind, modrinth will mark the mod as "Incompatible" which simplifies it too much. Fabric allows mods to have conflicts and incompatibilities, both can be marked for a specific or a range of versions too. I think modrinth should show more info on it like it already does with dependencies, as currently it can cause misinformation. That means phrases like "Version x.x.x is conflicting" or "Version x.y.z or newer are incompatible" would have to be added. By fabric spec, conflicting mods are the ones that cause some issues while breaking (or incompatible) mods are the ones that make game crash or cause irreversible problems, meaning simplifying conflicting mods as incompatible make it seems as these mods cannot or shouldn't be used together. I think a yellow or orange color would fit conflicts, while current red suits incompatibilities fine.
These ideas are meant to make modrinth more beginner-friendly, while also make it more informative for those people that understand, while not breaking the structure of the site.
