Modrinth.com website
Is your suggested feature related to a problem? Please describe.
I find it a little difficult to find hidden gems, mods of extremely high quality that don't get the recognition they deserve. Modpacks tend to be very similar mods all the way through, and I feel part of that is just so many mods remain unknown.
Describe the solution you'd like
I think the solution I'd prefer is a section on Modrinth where each week several mods below 50K downloads are picked (randomly) and put on display on a dedicated page. The user should also be allowed to generate extra sets of random mods if they want to dig deeper. Each mod should show the download, a link to the author, donation link (if applicable), page link & gallery image. Each week should have a few mods, and repeats should be allowed (after a few weeks)
You can also keep the data of the chosen mods, and make it possible to go back previous weeks to see their choices
Describe alternatives you've considered
Other solutions could be allowing the list to be selected by staff, a random sort option for the mod list page could also help, but these ideas work best in tandem.
You could also have an algorithm that selects mods in a certain range 500-50K dls, with a weighted follow count, to determine what mods to feature, but I worry this might lead to some mods being missed as not many people remember/choose to follow a mod.
Additional context
Really this is just a suggestion to allow smaller mod developers the chance to be seen, I always feel bad when a small developer has a stellar idea they just couldn't commit to as they just couldn't get eyes on it.
I want to see Modrinth become a platform where unrecognised high quality mods get the chance to be seen, especially as this used to be a task that Mod Showcases did, but that format of content just does not happen much anymore and it's now very hard for new modders to be seen.
Anything that allows small modders to get eyes onto their works more easily is seriously welcome!
