Make it easier for people to change language

Any chance the translations could be included in SciTE or somehow make it easier for people to use SciTE in their language?

Perhaps on https://github.com/downpoured/scite-files there could be instructions or link to the instructions on https://github.com/downpoured/scite-files/blob/master/files/translations.md so that it somehow says on the first page how to change language.

Also i noticed when i install other software in Linux desktop environments that they have a *-lang package.
But SciTE does not.

Like there could be both these packages:
scite
scite-lang

Then when the users selects scite the scite-lang is also selected.
And then some how it should use the system language so the user would not have to edit anything. It would use the same language as the system.

I added more links at the top of the page to the instructions for selecting a language.

These are good suggestions, but outside the scope of SciTE-files, I maintain the translations+extra files, and Neil Hodgson is the one who maintains SciTE's code. It would be better to use po/pot files, use Linux lang packages, and to have a less-complicated way to choose a language. Neil can be reached via the mailing list at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/scite-interest , and he is open to applying patches that are sent in.

When i go to https://github.com/downpoured/scite-files its not clear that the titles like "Translations" and "API files" are links.
Maybe keep the title a title that is not a link and then have a link like "How to change SciTE's language".

The Windows instructions does not seem to be correct (when using the Windows installer):

Navigate to the directory where SciTE.exe is located

SciTE.exe is in "Program Files (x86)" but placing the file there does not change the language.
It seem like it have to be in "ProgramData" but thats a hidden folder so properly not the best.

When using the Windows installer (https://www.ebswift.com/scite-text-editor-installer.html) it seems all the properties files are places in the hidden ProgramData folder and the rest is in Program Files (x86) but in the zip file its all in the same folder.

And what about for "single file executable called Sc1" where do i place the translation with that?
Same folder as Sc412.exe does not seem to change the language.

Hmm and placing locale.properties in the unzipped zip file folder also does not change the language.

For the Linux instructions i suggest saving the file as "locale.properties" to begin with in the ~/Downloads folder. Then use mv to move the file. That way you only have to delete 3 characters on save and dont have to type the whole file name on mv/cp. And use mv instead of cp because we dont need it in ~/Downloads/.

The Windows instructions says to place the file where SciTE.exe is.
The Linux instructions says to place the file where SciTEGlobal.properties is.
Maybe the instructions with SciTEGlobal.properties applys for both cases.

Yes, it is the location of SciTEGlobal.properties for both. I thought that some people might not be aware of what SciTEGlobal.properties is, whereas the location of SciTE is more intuitive. I've never used the Windows installer (like you say, it's weird that it uses ProgramData instead of AppData\Local ). The official .zip for Windows simply puts everything in the same directory.
I updated the wording and mentioned that the installer might use C:\ProgramData.

This has always worked for me, at least for the official .zip for Windows ("A full download (1550K)"), and when built from source.

This was an intentional choice; most new browsers like Chrome by default will dump everything into ~/Downloads without giving you a chance to rename the file, and so I wanted my instructions to work for that case.

Checked in a change to use "mv" instead of "cp" here.

Ideally, we'd have something a lot easier for the end user - maybe the translations would be included in the package, so that there is no second download needed, and there'd just be a dropdown menu in SciTE to choose the language. It could even ask the OS for the current language/locale and set itself automatically. If someone wants to build this, there's a chance Neil would merge it.
