Document the software last versions on which driver is known to work #49

Description

@hgkamath
  • Firstly, A thankyou to the developer(s)
  • Please do document the software last versions on which driver is known to work
  • It is understandable that such driver software cannot be maintained indefinitely
  • It is possible to keep printer functionality/access going by setting up a qemu-VM that has the printer driver, is given the paravirtualized usb connection. The VM may then share the printer back to host as a network printer.
  • It is not known if old CUPS version drivers are forward compatible, and may even be hard to figure out what one needs to fix if one is not a cups/printer-driver expert.
  • For a given release of mounaiban/captdriver (0.1.4-0.20231218git.1=711d4a56c57e2dde5cfbb166f036192a5913413c (20201116), 0.1.4.1-2.git627192.7=62719249ac34633338be54bc74beddd0e7003d38(20221013), ...), one must record the following version-details of the following software that are known to work
    • 1.) date of release: 20201116
    • 2a.) Linux-Flavor (fedora/debian/ubuntu/mint/alpine) preferably not a rolling release
    • 2b.) Linux-Flavor-Release-Version : Fedora-33 ?
    • 3.) CUPS version: ?
    • 4.) Linux kernel version (maybe the kernel version does not matter)
    • 5.) version of any other required software dependency
  • possibly you have a setup/configuration that you use as a daily driver and hence is best known to work, please do share.
    • The software versions/environment during development and use-by-developer may be most well tested on the developer's software environment itself. A user could expect to have least problems if the user replicates and uses the same setup.
  • Request to other users who chance upon reading this github issue to do the same by posting a comment below to this issue with the details
