In June 2025, Knowledge Futures announced that it is initiating a wind-down of some key initiatives and entering a period of regrouping after a critical funder unexpectedly withdrew its support.
Fortunately, in January 2026, Knowledge Futures announced that they have reduced their server costs by more than an order of magnitude (wow!). This will allow the funding they were going to use this year to get them through multiple years, and they hope to have a financially feasible path to supporting the server costs of PubPub indefinitely.
That being said, it is likely worth having a conversation about whether we should make a change in response to this.
