Cannot set the System Output anymore #108

Hi,

I am using the noah-mqtt since half a year and everything worked fine until yesterday.
My setup uses the value of my power meter to decide how much System output I send to my inverter. This worked brilliantly but since yesterday I still can read all values from the battery and inverter but if I am setting the value on the battery via noah-mqtt, it doesn't change. In fact it showed as changed in the noah-mqtt values but still at the inverter it will be the value I once set as default in the app.

(I replaced my serial no by "XXXX")
It will be sent but doesn't change the output. I think I changed the value in the shine-app and now it can only be changed within the app. Anyone experienced something similar?

I investigated more and it is the Growatt Server that is blocking my IP now. Same for you, see in your log:

How often are you pushing updates for setting the output power ? 5 Minute intervals still work fine. Even 3 minutes have not got me blocked. For faster updates you need to switch to another strategy like OpenDTU and Hoymiles inverters.

how often do you guys change the output setting? I'm currently using the shelly integration with the shinephone app and it gives back way too much power to the grid, instead of storing it in the battery – so I'm considering to change strategy.

In my opinion, noah2mqtt is only useful for reading data. If you try to dynamically set outputs, your IP may get blocked by the Growatt cloud.
I am now using GroBro as an MQTT client with a TLS-enabled Mosquitto broker, reading data every 5 seconds and updating the output_power every 20 seconds if it necessary.
By the way Noah and Neo have no access to the internet, all traffic run´s over GroBro.

ok thanks @Snowless3 – I'm a bit hesitant about the whole TLS thing, but if it gives better results than Growatts' own implementation, I might just go that way.

I experienced the same behavior. From my point of view, the API has a rate limit. If I set the value only every three minutes with an automation, the changes go through.

Freqency is everything for the Noah / Shine Webapp / webservice. 3 Minute updates at max. Better go for 5 minutes.
It makes more sense for updating you system output power in a more stable manor. I use 3 minute average in Home Assistant for power consumption to set the power limit for my solar inverter. It takes several 30 seconds / minutes for the system to average out.
