What is the "stream id" about?

On the "Setup" documentation page there is mention of a command line option "stream id" (or "hash"?), but I could not find any explanation of what its purpose is.

So what is this about? What does it do? When should it be used?

The video-streamer doesn't support access protection through authentication/login at the moment. The id adds a layer of obscurity to protect the streaming resource if needed. So to access your stream, you currently need to add your given hash at the end of the uri.

For example let's say you run the video-streamer on localhost:8000 with a hash of 123 and would like the stream to be in MPEG1 format. Then you can access the stream source under "ws://localhost:8000/ws/123".

The idea is that even if somebody knows the location and port your application is running on, this person cannot access the video-resource. Normally you would not use a hardcoded hash (except maybe for development, testing reasons) but rather generate a newly and unique hash for every stream you create ( I would recommend to not use some incremental hash either of course)
