What does ViewHosting.host do?

I see it mentioned throughout the docs everywhere, but there is no documentation for the method and I can't quite figure out what it's purpose is. It seems to put the view into a hosting controller, but this hosting controller isn't passed back to the call site in any way, so the relationship between the hosting controller and the view provided to ViewHosting.host isn't super clear. Some additional documentation around ViewHosting.host and what it does would be super helpful!
