Inquiry on ARINC 653 Adaptation Layer Development Progress

Hello everyone,

I am a developer interested in NASA cFS. I remember that in the development plan of cFS, it was mentioned that an adaptation layer for ARINC 653 was considered so that cFS could be better applied to avionics systems that need to meet the ARINC 653 standard.

In order to better understand the situation, I checked the OSAL library and related codes of cFS, but did not find any records or implementations related to ARINC 653.

I would like to ask, what is the current development progress of this ARINC 653 adaptation layer?

Specifically, I would like to know the following information:

• Is this adaptation layer still under development?

• Are there any related development branches or milestone plans for reference?

• Is this adaptation layer planned to be open source? If it is already open source, can you tell me the address of the relevant code repository?

• If this adaptation layer has not yet started development or has been abandoned, are there other related plans or alternatives to support the application of cFS in the ARINC 653 environment?

Hi Algo, it's not something the core team is currently working on, but definitely something of interest. I know ARINC 653 has been used with cFS in the past, but I'm not sure where that development is. If anyone in the community has an adapter they would be willing to contribute, it would certainly be appreciated. As of today, it would have to be something you implement yourself.

I understand that the core team is currently not working on the ARINC 653 adaptation layer, and that implementing it would indeed require a self-driven effort if needed now. Your mention of past usage is interesting, and I will try to see if I can find any leads on that.

The information you provided clarifies the current situation very well. I will consider implementing it myself or further looking for any potentially existing implementations within the community.

I heard Lunar Gateway was requiring both cFS and ARINC-653. Not sure if that is still the case or if anyone on Lunar Gateway can confirm.
