Ring 3 is one of the MOST important OS parts.. For a "OS" called "TrustOS", you can't really trust it if "userspace" programs operate in Ring 0. And no, NO ONE is expecting a OS to be fully compatible with Windows, that's ridiculous; but any OSDev WILL do Ring 3 basically from the start. Of course, AI is coding this, not any human. I can forgive the creator if they were coding it without AI, sure, but its mainly just about using AI.

Didn't Claude somehow fail to make a C compiler with no assembler and no linker that couldn't even compile a hello world program even with a human trying to fix it after the fact? I'm not convinced this would boot on my laptop, but its ironically a WAY better demonstration of AI than what Anthropic had.

The Intel 80286 (1982) already had rings 0–3. Windows 3.1 came out in 1992. So no.
Unix was not a toy kernel for decades until it was able to add ring 3, it was used for a lot of important enterprise software.

Windows 3.1 did though, if you WERE running on a 386 with the enhanced mode:

Windows 3.0 and 3.1 were sold as a graphical user environment for MS-DOS. "Enhanced mode" for the 80386 really loaded another operating system of sorts called the Virtual Machine Manager or VMM.386 that ran in 80386 ring 0. Windows applications all ran in one ring 3 VM, MS-DOS Command Prompt windows got other Virtual 8086 ring 3 VMs. If any of them tried to do something that needed MS-DOS, the VMM would intercept it and call out to the underlying real-mode MS-DOS to get it done. (This stuff came from the earlier Windows/386 product.)

Of course, many 3.1 users might've been using 286es or lower OR a 386 just without the enhanced mode, but still, you're wrong on that statement. Windows 3.1 DID support Ring 3.

And yes, DOS didn't have it, but again; DOS was before Protected Mode, originally developed for the 8086, "real mode" on modern computers. It DIDN'T have Ring 3, because Ring 3 DIDN'T EXIST YET.

And Unix did start without Ring 3, again because it was originally running on non-x86 computers that didn't have Ring 3. Again, invalid.

And nowadays, Ring 3 basically IS required. Now, the developer of this "OS" did add it.. still with AI.
